Last Week of Summer

As I start my last full week of summer, full of appointments, shopping trips, and friend dates, I can't help being struck by how fast my "last summer as a kid" has gone by. I more or less stayed purposely unemployed so I could enjoy being 18 and without commitments. It was an amazing summer filled with day-long adventures, family time, and productive housework. But it was kind of disappointing at the same time. The senior trip I was going on never quite materialized. I never quite finished a couple projects. But it may have have been for the best, despite my objections. Instead of one big, expensive trip I was able to do many cheap things like go kayaking, have brunch, see museums, and get coffee with my friends. I was able to go on our last big family vacation and go on a road trip across Ohio in the station wagon. So I guess it has been a pretty great summer, and certainly one full of memories that I can carry close to my heart in the coming years.
